What special precautions should I follow?

Before taking Pefloxacin:

Tell your doctor if you have brain or spinal cord disease, including arterisclerosis in the brain or epilepsy or other seizures. You may not be able to take pefloxacin, or you may require a dosage adjustment or special monitoring during treatment.

Moreover, please inform your doctor if you are taking any of the following drugs: antacids; iron supplements; didanosine or sucralfate. You may not be able to take pefloxacin, or you may require a dosage adjustment or special monitoring during treatment if you are taking any of the medicines listed above.

Drugs other than those listed here may also interact with pefloxacin. Talk to your doctor and pharmacist before taking any prescription or over-the-counter medicines, including herbal products.

Do not take this medication without first talking to your doctor if you are pregnant or could become pregnant during treatment, or whilst breast-feeding a baby.

Additionally, pefloxacin is not to be used in children below 12 years.

Avoid prolonged exposure to sunlight. Pefloxacin may increase the sensitivity of the skin to sunlight, and a severe sunburn may result.
